Types of Questions
Questioning is a fundamental aspect of teaching, and it is
imperative for teachers to understand the various types of questioning
available to ensure they are used effectively. Questions are one of the
fundamental building blocks for learning (Wassermann, 1991), and varying the
types of questions allows teachers to cover content areas for a variety of
student learning types, whilst encouraging the development of higher-level
critical thinking skills (Tofade, Elsner, & Haines 2013). It is necessary for
teachers to understand their class and ask the appropriate type of question as
getting it wrong can cause confusion and intimidation, both of which are
unhelpful to the learning process (Chin, 2007). An analysis of two sets of
